There is so much to do to prepare for a new baby! Between all the baby necessities, it’s easy to overlook stocking up on postpartum essentials. A newborn baby requires around the clock care, so it’s important that new mommas take care of their healing body to keep up with the new baby. I’ve assembled a list of all the necessary postpartum essentials that made my postpartum healing experience as comfortable as possible!
Here is a list of my top 10 must-have amazon postpartum essentials:
This list of products supports your postpartum recovery, comfort and nursing needs.
Here is my honest review of each item and why it’s essential for postpartum care.
#1 Frida Mom Disposable Underwear
For the first several weeks after vaginally giving birth, you are continuously leaking fluid and blood so disposable underwear are a MUST. The great thing about the Frida Mom underwear is they fit your body much better than the ones the hospital hands out and are much more comfortable. They also are superior when it comes to holding ice pads and additional pads inside without feeling like something may slip out of place (yikes). I found these underwear to work better than the pair the hospital offered when I wore pants over top. They felt more like real underwear which was far more comfortable.
Run, don’t walk to get stocked up on these postpartum disposable underwear!
#2 Frida Mom Upside Down Peri Bottle
Since everything is ultra sensitive down there, its crucial that you use a peri bottle to clean yourself after you use the bathroom since wiping is off the table. It also provides some comfort to squirt warm water in that area during recovery. I found the Frida Mom Upside Down Peri Bottle to work great due to its unique design. With the upside down design, you don’t have to stick your hand and bottle so far down to get a good squirt angle. This bottle allows you to easily and comfortably rinse yourself.
#3 Tucks Witch Hazel Pads
These medicated cooling pads are an essential as they promote healing after a vaginal delivery and soothe your sensitive areas. The healing process can cause burning and itching to occur so these cooling pads really do the trick in alleviating those symptoms. Hemorrhoids are another unfortunate reality with pregnancy and postpartum recovery. Tucks pads are also designed to relieve pain and itching associated with hemorrhoids.
#4 Frida Mom Instant Ice Maxi Pads
Talk about relief! There is a lot of physical trauma after a vaginal birth and these instant ice maxi pads by Frida Mom are truly a life saver! The ice helps soothe the sore, achy pains and they fit perfectly inside the Frida Mom Disposable Underwear. These are an absolute must!
#5 Dermoplast Spray
This dermoplast spray is yet another must have essential for postpartum recovery. As I mentioned previously, healing comes with lots of itching and burning and this spray does an amazing job of helping alleviate those symptoms. It’s easy to spray at an angle and leaves a cool sensation as it hits your skin.
#6 Earth Mama Organic Nipple Butter
If you plan to breastfeed your baby, even for a little while, this nipple butter is a MUST. Your nipples are going to be raw and sore from the constant on and off feeding during the first several weeks or months and it’s important to lubricate and moisturize as often as possible. The great thing about this nipple butter is it’s safe for baby to ingest so there’s no need to worry about wiping it off before feeding or pumping. I also used this nipple butter on my lips and hands as it hydrates your skin beautifully!
#7 Lansinoh Nursing Pads
Whether you breast feed or not, your nipples are most likely going to be leaking quite a bit in the first weeks and months as your milk supply comes in and your baby demands round the clock feeding. These pads are absolutely necessary so you don’t leak directly into your bras and soak them in milk (it is both uncomfortable and foul smelling). I am almost 5 months into breastfeeding and still experience leaking at night and occasionally throughout the day prior to scheduled feeding times. They stay attached to your bra without moving or popping off no matter what activity you are doing. I exercise with these in my bra and can’t even tell they are there!
#8 Nursing Tank Tops
Clothing can be tricky when you are freshly postpartum and these tanks are great because they are stretchy and fit you during all stages of postpartum recovery and thereafter. They clip at the straps so you can easy breastfeed without getting fully undressed or lifting your shirt. These tank tops comes in a number of different colors and can be worn all day and night.
#9 Nursing Bra
These nursing bras from Amazon were a total game changer for me even at the start of my pregnancy when my breasts became enlarged and tender. I wore these throughout my entire pregnancy and now as I am a breastfeeding momma. They are ultra comfortable and still provide shape and support like a real bra would. I can wear these all day and night comfortably with most outfits. These bras come in various color combinations at a great price!
#10 Postpartum PJ’s
I don’t know about you, but I am a pj girlie. I knew I was going to want pjs and loungewear that would be comfortable during pregnancy but also serve as great nursing options once baby arrived. That’s where these cute maternity button up nightgowns come in! I purchased these nightgowns one size up from my usual so that they were roomy enough to wear while pregnant but not too large postpartum. The button down style is great for nursing without having to feel fully undressed or exposed, especially in the first few weeks postpartum when you are nursing around the clock. I packed two of these gowns in my hospital bag and they were absolutely perfect to wear while recovering in the hospital. Plus, they are so cute and a great price!
