Pregnancy can be a very uncomfortable experience for a lot of women. I can remember the day I learned I was pregnant so vividly. 

I saw that “+” sign appear on the pregnancy test and the most overwhelming mixture of emotions came over me. It was a combination of feeling the most excitement I’ve ever felt in my life, mixed with relief that pregnancy was possible for me, mixed with fear in that it was entirely new territory for me as a first time pregnancy.  

Immediately, I knew I needed to begin preparing for the changes to come.

With this pregnancy being my first, I had a lot to learn. It’s truly an experience you can’t fully understand until you experience it yourself. I did a ton of research and leaned on the wisdom and advice of other moms and experts to feel confident, comfortable, and prepared for what lied ahead in my pregnancy (and eventually birth) journey. 

Through countless hours of research I implemented a routine that made my pregnancy journey from start to finish genuinely pleasant and enjoyable for both my mind and body. Don’t get me wrong, there are some undesirable aspects of pregnancy that you can’t entirely avoid, but I can confidently tell you that it’s possible to enjoy pregnancy if you control what you can.  

Pregnancy is a challenging experience that takes a toll on women physically and mentally. By educating myself and growing my own motherhood community, I was able to find solutions to feel energized, happy, comfortable and confident during my pregnancy.

The first trimester of pregnancy is a rollercoaster of emotions. From first learning you’re pregnant to waiting on critical doctor appointments, you are experiencing simultaneous highs and lows. It’s a time where excitement and fear can co-exist and you feel like you’re in the middle of a game of tug of war between the two. So how can you find peace and comfort during this wild time?

Secret #3 The Importance of Physical Activity For The Pregnant Mind And Body

One of the secrets I learned to overcome pregnancy aches, pains and mental and physical fatigue is to maintain a regular exercise routine. 

It’s so easy to fall into a rhythm of being a lazy couch potato everyday while pregnant. Growing a baby is physically demanding work! However, while rest and relaxation are absolutely necessary during pregnancy, it’s important to also maintain a healthy level of activity throughout the day.

#4 How Pelvic Floor Therapy Can Dramatically Support Birth And Postpartum Recovery

My final, and most essential secret to experiencing a comfortable pregnancy is pelvic floor physical therapy. 

When I was 12 weeks pregnant, I happened to stumble upon some articles that outlined the benefits of pelvic floor physical therapy and instantly was intrigued. That very same week I discovered one of my female colleagues was going to pelvic floor physical therapy for back pain and she raved about the experience. As if the universe hadn’t already given me enough signs that I should seek out pelvic floor therapy, the next week I came across an instagram post of a local friend advertising she was a pelvic floor physical therapist. 

At my next OB/GYN visit I secured a referral and began my pelvic floor strengthening journey.

I can say without a shred of doubt that pelvic floor physical therapy made my pregnancy pain-free and birthing easy. Have you ever heard someone call birth “easy”?? Thanks to pelvic floor strengthening, I also maintained full control over my bladder my entire pregnancy and never had to get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night (which meant my sleep was never disrupted by needing to pee!!!)
