My birth experience was truly enjoyable and I believe I owe it to my physical preparation and positive mindset.
Was I nervous on the drive to the hospital? Naturally, yes.
BUT, was I more excited? HECK YES!
I was confident that I was ready and capable of birthing my baby. I trusted my mental and physical prep and felt empowered and confident to tackle birth.
My story is ordinary, but it’s exactly what I wanted. I birthed at a hospital, I got the epidural, when it was show time I pushed my baby out in 30 minutes and hardly tore. YEEHAW!
I remember the doctor saying, “You really don’t need any stitches, but I’ll give you one anyway.” I took that as a MAJOR win!
My birth went according to plan. However, I know mommas whose birth plan went a little sideways. And that’s ok, too! I’m not here to guarantee anything. BUT, I am here to empower you to control the controllables - such as how you prepare your mind and body so your chances of having a happy birth story are higher.

Another thing I found to be incredibly helpful is the Customizable Birth Plan pdf that allows you to have a printed document ready to hand to your nursing staff when you arrive at the hospital so everyone is on the same page with your preferences. I remember my nurses were thrilled when I handed them my printed birth plan. It’s nothing super formal. Really it’s just a consolidated way to share your preferences such as medical interventions you may want to avoid, birth positions you are open to, delayed cord clamping when baby is born, etc. I highly recommend coming prepared with a birth plan. It also keeps your partner informed if they need to help advocate for you.
The Birth Plan will certainly put your mind at ease knowing you didn’t forget to share any specific preferences with your medical team. I recommend you at least begin working on this while you consider the Empowered Birth Academy.
